Eagles pitching, defense dominate title game

Roxana, DE- The Smyrna softball team won their second consecutive DIAA state softball championship on Saturday afternoon, defeating Caravel 1-0 at the Sussex County Little League fields in Roxana, DE.

Julia Thuer got the game’s first and only RBI of the day, driving in Kayla Wilson to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead just minutes into the contest. Starting pitcher Payton Dixon (4 hits, 4 strikeouts) finished with a complete game shutout in the win.

The victory makes Smyrna just the 5th school in DIAA history to win at least two straight softball state titles.
