Salisbury’s speed cameras generate $1.325 million, 10th most lucrative in state
SALISBURY, Md. – A new data analysis reveals that Salisbury’s speed camera system ranks 10th in Maryland as “most lucrative” for Fiscal Year 2018.
AAA Mid-Atlantic released the data on Tuesday, with a look at a total of 45 jurisdictions that operated speed monitoring systems in Maryland during FY 2018.
Salisbury’s speed cameras generated $1,325,771 for FY 2018.
According to AAA, speed camera citations in Maryland are issued to drivers who exceed the posted speed limit in school zones and work zones (Maryland Safe Zones) by 12 mph or greater. “Nearly a third of speed camera tickets are issued to motorists caught speeding one mile per hour over the threshold speed that triggers the flash of the speed camera, research shows,” says John B. Townsend II, AAA Mid-Atlantic’s Manager of Public and Government Affairs.
School zone speed cameras operate “only Monday through Friday between 6:00 A.M. and 8:00 P.M.” Citations are issued and mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle. Violators must pay a $40 fee.
