Salisbury man arrested on multiple drug charges following traffic stop

SALISBURY, Md. – According to the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, a Salisbury man was arrested on multiple drug charges Monday morning.

Shortly after 7 a.m., a deputy stopped a vehicle in the area of Jersey Road and Naylor Mill Road after observing that the driver was not restrained by a seat belt. It was also observed that the driver was smoking something while driving, which was later identified as marijuana.

After making contact with the driver, identified as 27-year-old Zachery Averine, a search of the vehicle was conducted. The deputy seized approximately 1.5 pounds of marijuana contained in 72 plastic pouches, along with drug paraphernalia. Investigation revealed that the marijuana was purchased out of state and brought to the area by Averine.

Averine was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is currently being held on a $5,000 bond.
