Public works customers information compromised by hacking

LEWES, Del. – Lewes Public Works customers information may have been compromised following a hack of their information system this week.
General Manager Darrin Gordon says he was first notified of the breach on Tuesday, May 28. The Department of Homeland Security alerted the Public Works to a potential breach involving names, emails, credit cards, debit cards and other financial information.
As of now, the department has isolated their system to save its records and data. They have also stopped all incoming and outgoing communications, and are doing an internal look at how this happened and what needs to be done to rectify the situation.
“It actually came through our vendor’s connection,” said Lewes Public Works General Manager Darrin Gordon. “While it’s no excuse, we’ve been very vigilant, and so for this to come through our vendor’s connection, that was very discouraging for us.”
As of now, there is no time frame for getting Lewes Public Works back online. There will be a grace period for customers, but you can still drop by the office building and pay by cash, check or credit.
