Proposed county budget focuses on public safety, future wastewater capacity

GEORGETOWN, Del. –  The council was busy Tuesday morning, proposing its 2020 fiscal year budget that includes no tax increases.

Some of the highlights for this $185.8 million budget include $35 million in capital funding to improve the county’s wastewater capabilities for the next two decades.

There was also a heavy emphasis on public safety, with increased funding for the county’s contract with Delaware State Police, as well as more funding for local police forces in towns across the county.

“We’re going to build a new public safety building out at our 9-1-1 dispatch center, bringing our paramedics under the same roof as our 9-1-1 dispatchers. And that will really enhance our efficiency as it relates to public safety,” said county administrator Todd Lawson.

The county council will hold a public hearing on the proposal on June 18 at 10 AM. If you are not able to attend, you can leave a comment here.
