Princess Anne man convicted on first degree murder, armed robbery charges

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – A Princess Anne man has been convicted on numerous charges in the 2017 death of Arthur Alford.

On April 25th, a four day trial wrapped up when a Somerset County jury convicted Donte Sumpter of first degree murder, second degree murder, armed robbery, armed carjacking, and use of a firearm in a violent crime.

The charges date back to September 24, 2017, when Sumpter shot Alford twice in the head inside a vehicle while parked in a driveway on Freetown Road in Princess Anne. He then dragged Alford out of the vehicle and left him lying in the driveway before driving off in Alford’s vehicle. Further investigation revealed that Alford bought the vehicle from Sumpter the day prior. The vehicle and murder weapon were found less than one mile away later that evening.

Sentencing is scheduled for July 24th, and we’re told the State is planning to seek a life sentence without the possibility of parole. Sumpter has two prior felony convictions for first degree assault and armed robbery.
