New commercial development to come to Berlin intersection
BERLIN, Md. – A new commercial development will soon be coming to Berlin.
A seven-acre plot of land along Route 50 at Route 818 was annexed by Berlin Town Council Tuesday night.
This is the first step to bringing a new concept 7-11 to the area, and that’s not all. We’re told this could include a fast food restaurant, a stand alone family restaurant, possibly a hotel and even a small strip center.
A traffic study is currently being performed to find out the economic viability of a hotel at this intersection.
“This intersection is begging for some kind of development. It’s one of the gateways into the town of Berlin, one of just four. It’s zoned commercial for this purpose. And the family has owned this property for many years, so it’s time to develop it,” said owner Spiro Buas.
We’re told the plan is to break ground on this project in the third quarter of this year. Three of the five buildings on this land will be burned down on Fathers Day, with local fire departments using it as a training exercise.
