Nanticoke River Multisport Festival honors Nancy Sterling

WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – Over a hundred people laced up their shoes and hit the pavement in Bivalve for a good cause Sunday morning.

The annual Nanticoke River Multisport Festival was a chance for athletes from across Delmarva to test their skills with all sorts of obstacles.

The event offered a half-mile swim course, a 15-mile bike course and a three-mile course for runners.

According to the Race Director Mike Lahey, the festival honors the beloved Nancy Sterling who passed away a few years ago from ALS.

Lahey says the event also helps bring more attention to Wicomico County and its smaller communities.

“I think it’s great for Wicomico County that we can bring people down here to Ceder Hill Marina and see what we have and our goal is to grow the event,” said Lahey.

“We had a Salisbury triathlon years ago over at Shumaker Pond, so we tried to do it around the same day as that event,” said Lahey.

According to Lahey, all proceeds collected during the event will go to local organizations as well as the West Side Fire Department.
