Maryland easy enrollment health insurance program will help thousands get coverage

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – On Monday, Governor Larry Hogan signed a bill into law that would make health insurance enrollment easier for Marylanders. It’s called The Maryland Easy Enrollment Health Insurance Program. Legislators say it will let Marylanders jump-start enrollment into health insurance by simply checking a box on their annual state income tax returns. They add that this is process will let the state’s health care exchange determine eligibility for free or low-cost health insurance based on information sent electronically from the tax return. The new program is expected to help tens of thousands of Marylanders obtain health insurance.

“This is going along way towards getting people who are uninsured insured it helps spread risk out over a larger pool which is frankly a main idea to any type of insurance which is to help everybody, and getting everybody in a participating mode,” said Delegate Chris Adams (R-District 37B).

The law will take effect on October 1st.
