Local farmers react to new round of tariffs
EDEN, Md. – Farmers are saying President Donald Trump’s ongoing trade war with China is continuing to affect their bottom line.
President Trump last week more than doubled tariffs on 200 billion dollars in Chinese exports, which in turn resulted in China to raise tariffs on 60 billion dollars of U.S. items today.
The moves have especially hit soybean farmers hard who say prices are down on the crop.
“Directly the farmers are worried about it because it affects the price they sell their products for and right now we’re two dollars under what soy beans were and that makes a big difference,” said the Former Secretary of Agriculture, Roger Richardson.
Speaking to reporters on Monday President Trump said he would use some of the tariff revenue to help subsidize farmers.
