Laurel man arrested in connection to shooting incident

GEORGETOWN, Del. – Georgetown Police arrested a Laurel man on Thursday following an investigation into a reported shooting incident that happened last week.

Police say the incident happened on April 24th, in the parking lot of the County Seat Apartments. On arrival, police learned that a male victim sustained a gunshot wound to the foot and was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect had been sitting inside a vehicle in the parking lot when another male approached him and began physically assaulting him. The suspect then retrieved a handgun and fired a shot, hitting the victim in the foot, before fleeing the scene.

Officials identified the suspect as 44-year-old Tyrone Fassett of Laurel. Fassett was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshalls First State Fugitive Task Force on Thursday, who then turned him over to Georgetown Police, where he was charged with first degree assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited and possession of a firearm by a person previously convicted.

Fassett is currently being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution on $65,000 bond.
