Funds from reggae event will help with storm water issues

BERLIN, Md. – Thousands of music lovers were hosted by Berlin for its Reggae Play Day, and the money raised will go to help the local infrastructure.

About 7,000 were expected Friday night, with the money raised going to Berlin Main Street.

This money will go toward helping to pay for events like the one Friday, but also will be used for a grant to help with its streetscape.

We’re told some intersections in the town gather storm water when it rains, and this grant will go toward Pervious Pavers at these problem areas.

“It’s gonna rain, and if the water doesn’t have anywhere to go, it puddles in certain areas. And so if we replace those areas with Pervious Pavers, then the water can just sink into the ground,” said Ivy Wells, the Berlin director of economic and community development.

Wells says this grant to address the storm water issues will be issued some time next week.
