First phase of Forgotten Mile construction complete

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. –  There’s some good news for commuters in Sussex County: construction on the Forgotten Mile is finished, for now at least.

Phase one, which involved making sidewalk access points ADA compliant, is essentially done. DelDOT tells 47 ABC that 90 out out of the 93 upgrades for phase one are finished. We’re told the main goal with this project is to update the highly traveled road and make it easier for everyone to use it, since it hasn’t been improved in about 15 years.

“Just making sure that anyone who may be using a wheelchair or have any other mobility needs will have an easier time navigating that stretch on the sidewalk throughout that Forgotten Mile section,” says C.R. McLeod, Director of Community Relations for DelDOT.

DelDOT says on Wednesday the contractor will be stopping work for the summer season and picking up all the construction related signage and equipment. Crews will be going back to the Forgotten Mile in September for phase two, to finish those last three access points and repave the roadway.

The Forgotten Mile runs from Rehoboth Beach to Dewey Beach.
