First ever nonprofit impact study results unveiled

SALISBURY, Md. –  Nonprofits on the lower eastern shore celebrated a first detailed look at their impact on the local economy.

The new study shown on Friday says nonprofits make a total economic impact of over $695 million dollars annually.

The study also shows that nonprofits provide more than 9,200 jobs in the area.

The Greater Salisbury Committee President and CEO Mike Dunn said organizations like the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore and the United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore helped make this study a reality.

“You’ve got 14 percent of the employment sector is working for a non-profit, and that non-profit sector generates more than $600 million dollars a year to the local economy,” said Dunn.

“It’s something that we knew, but now it’s quantified,” said Dunn.

Dunn said this new information will now be going to rotary clubs and county councils to help support nonprofits.
