'Fight Like 4'
GREENWOOD, Del. – On April 26th, 2019, Woodbridge High School senior Troy Haynes learned that he had developed kidney cancer. Haynes, a four-year standout quarterback on the football field, recently helped the Blue Raiders win their second state title in the past three seasons.
Following his senior year, Troy decided to further his football career at the University of Mount Union. In no way, shape or form did he see this obstacle in the distance.
“I mean I was pretty scared. Hearing I have cancer, the first thing I thought of was possibly dying but with the help of a lot of people just reaching out to me and talking to me and making sure I’m alright. It’s helped a lot.”
With the help of hundreds in and around the state of Delaware, a GoFundMe page was established and has currently raised over $25,000 to help Troy with his battle.
“It’s just like having a competitive nature. I’ve already seen a lot of people looking out for me and it’s just pushing me more to just be able to beat this and be an inspiration to a lot of people.”
Troy is scheduled to undergo surgery Friday morning, May 10th, at Einstein Medical Center located in Philadelphia. Doctors will remove his kidney and clean the lymph nodes surrounding the infected area and arteries.
‘Fight Like 4’ t-shirts are available for purchase at Woodbridge High School.
