Farmers, lawmakers kick off Delaware Grown Week
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – State officials in Delaware met up with local farmers today as part of the kick off to Delaware Grown Week.
This event hosted in part by the Rehoboth Farmers’ Market is a chance for the community to celebrate Delaware’s family farms and to show all the crops that help drive the state’s economy.
According to the Secretary of Agriculture Michael Scuse it is crucial to showcase the impact local farmers in the First State.
“This week is all about Delaware grown products, showcasing Delaware’s finest not just the products, but our producers as well,” said Scuse.
“That’s what this week is all about the great producers that we have in the state of Delaware,” said Scuse.
Local farmers at the Rehoboth Farmers’ Market said it is important for them to meet with local legislators.
That is why people like State Senator Ernie Lopez and State Representative Lyndon Yearick came out to the event to show support. Farmers said the event is simply a chance to show what they have to offer right in their own community.
“It’s important that we get to show the mushrooms and we’re proud of them because they’re fresh,” said Dale Langrehr, a mushroom grower.
“The mushrooms that we’re selling today were picked yesterday,” said Langrehr.
Farmers from nearby states like Pennsylvania are also participating in the Delaware Grown Week.
