Evening house fire in Sussex County leaves one dead

SEAFORD, Del.–In Seaford, the Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating a late night house fire that left one person dead.

Fire officials say the blaze happened around 8 p.m., Wednesday on the 400 block of North Arch Street. Firefighters found one person dead inside the home but six others made it out alive.

There were no other injuries reported. The person who perished inside the home has yet to be identified, but an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

Officials want to ensure that a positive identification is made prior to releasing the victim’s name, age, and sex.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is keeping this fire under investigation as they search for the origin and cause.

Heavy fire damage to the home is an estimated $75,000.  The red cross is assisting the people displaced by the fire.
