Easton man arrested in connection to multiple theft incidents

EASTON, Md. – Easton Police arrested a man on several outstanding warrants on Monday, in connection to multiple theft incidents stemming back to November 2018.

Officers were called to the Aldi supermarket for a report of a person trying to steal a wallet from a grocery cart. Police began searching the area after learning that the individual had left the store, and located the individual, identified as 66-year-old Joseph Ruben Smith, hiding in an overgrown ditch nearby.

Police say Smith had stolen numerous wallets from purses in unattended shopping carts over the past several months. Smith was charged with three counts of theft less than $100, and two counts of theft $100 to under $1500.
