Church van broken into, youth ministry without transportation

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – A Cambridge Church is asking for the public’s help after the van they use for their youth ministry was broken into this week and now doesn’t work at all.

St. Paul’s United Methodist Church says someone smashed their van’s window open, sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning. The person reportedly tried to hotwire the car and ended up damaging the ignition, so the van doesn’t even run anymore.

Church officials are now reaching out to the community saying this van is the only way they get the members of their youth ministry around, especially during the summer when their programs kick into high gear. But they tell 47 ABC that this unfortunate event makes them even more eager to continue the good work they do for the community.

“As disheartening as this, it also made me realize how important ministries like this are in the town. And how we can come together as a community and teach kids and give them positive outlets so that they’re not learning and getting into negative things,” says Rebecca Redmer, the director of Young People’s Ministries at the church.

St. Paul’s United Methodist Church has it’s first big summer kick off event on Thursday so if you would like to lend a hand to help them get a new van or even just volunteer, you can reach out to Rebecca Redmer at rredmer@stpaulscambridge.com.
