Businesses expecting busy summer shopping season

BERLIN, Md. – With the warmer weather here to stay businesses are already starting to see a boost in sales, as tourists make their way to Delmarva’s resort towns.

“We’re so busy and I think it’s just going to get busier as people come down. There’s shopping, and eating, and there’s something to do for an entire day.” said Victorian Charm owner Debbie Frene.

“We’re seeing early hits in the morning and then later at night all the restaurants are bringing people back to town,” said Bruder Hill and Bruder Home store manager, Larnet St. Amant.

Business owners in Berlin say they’ve been getting a lot of foot traffic from people heading to or coming from Ocean City.

“Everybody comes down and they want to do the boardwalk and the beach thing. Once that happens they find Berlin. There’s just so many people in Ocean city, they take a day away from the beach and they come in town and find us and enjoy Berlin,” Frene said.

And we’re told it’s only just the beginning. Many say they’ve been preparing all year for the busy summer season where they get the most customers filling their shopping bags, and emptying their wallets.

“We’ve been very, very busy. The store is completely full. We planned all winter to fill this store up and it’s full and we’re ready to sell you something great,” said St. Amant.

“It’s the beginning of the season, and everybody just wants to get out in the sun,” said Frene.

And even though it’s early, businesses say hey know it’s going to be a good and profitable season.

“We’re getting a really good vibe from people. They’re really excited to be in Ocean City and Berlin,” said St. Amant.
