Awareness for maternal mental health core goal of plaza color walk

SALISBURY, Md. – Raising awareness about maternal mental health was the goal of the inaugural color walk on the downtown plaza Saturday morning.

Saturday’s walk was for survivors, families, those working with pregnant and post-partum women, and those who want to raise awareness for maternal mental health.

“That’s what the color symbolizes. It’s bringing color back to motherhood. Motherhood was not meant to navigate alone, and you have a whole community of people here cheering you on and here to help you and support you and connect you to the right resources,” said Meisha Shockley, owner of Shore Grace Family Wellness.

The walk was put on in part by Shore Grace Family Wellness, a new business helping families transition into living with a newborn.

Shockley says her goals moving forward include more specialized care in maternal mental health, more clinicians and more people trained at her center. Regionally, she lists more awareness and more screening tools in facilities across the shore as areas to improve on.
