AGH gets green light to build new surgery center
BERLIN, Md. – In Worcester County, Atlantic General Hospital just received a much needed stamp of approval to build a brand new surgery center in Ocean Pines.
The hospital received a certificate of need from the Maryland Health Care Commission, which gives them the green light to move forward with plans to build a new 98,000 square foot facility that will house primary and specialty care physician practices, outpatient services, and the county’s first surgery center.
AGH CEO Michael Franklin explains, “Patients who require services like a colonoscopy, or other types of minor surgery, with certain insurances they have to leave Worcester County to have those services done because those insurances won’t pay for it to be done in a hospital. So we’re creating an environment now where those people can just stay in the community.”
Right now AGH has four operating rooms at their Berlin hospital campus, and they will have two more at the surgery center to meet the need of Worcester County’s growing population.
