Maryland delegate weighs in on Kirwan Commission

OCEAN CITY, Md. – Worcester County officials are sharing their concerns after learning the effects the Kirwan Commission will have on the county.

According to Delegate Wayne Hartman, he is upset that the county got the second lowest amount of state education funding assistance at $4,195 dollars for every student.

Hartman said he had supported the Kirwan Commission until he found out what the formula was going to be for distributing the new funds for schools across the state.

“My concern is that the allotment to Worcester County is very low whereas Wicomico County fared out much better that’s 7.7 million, so my big concern with that of course and I raise those concerns is the formula for funding and Worcester County being one of the lowest,” said Hartman.

Hartman said that although he was disappointed by the distribution of the funds he believes new additions like technology will help improve education in the county.
