Town of Ocean City still in need of lifeguards for upcoming summer season

OCEAN CITY, Md. – As we get closer to the start of summer, resort towns are beginning to hire lifeguards for the season. But one town in particular, is having a little bit of a rough time finding employees. In Ocean City, officials say the hiring process is not quite up to their expectations. And right now, they’re still in need of lifeguards before Memorial Day. One of the challenges officials say they’re facing is housing for their employees. They tell us the places these seasonal lifeguards try to live are often expensive, and can deter them from wanting to accept a job with the town. But officials add that despite the setback, they’ll be ready for summer.

“Those members of the beach patrol are mainly college age students and the majority relocate here for the summer as they do each summer. So there are challenges with housing. This year, our challenges aren’t any greater than they have been in the past,” said Director of Emergency Services, Joseph Theobald.

If you’re interested in becoming a life guard for ocean city you have another chance to join, the next lifeguard test will take place on Sunday, April 28th at 10 AM in Ocean Pines.
