Town of Laurel comes together to help one another after tornado

LAUREL, Del. – On Tuesday, we met up with the Mayor of Laurel, who says he’s been amazed by how much his town has come together after Monday’s tornado.

We’re told 27 homes were completely destroyed in Monday’s tornado, but people have been taking action to help out those in need.

Shelters have been opened up throughout the area and people are opening up their homes to people who have lost theirs.

We’re told first-responders and utility companies have been working around the clock to get people the help they need and the town is also willing to do anything they can to help out.

Mayor John Schwed said, “We’re very fortunate that we have a lot of good people and organizations here from the State Government to the County Government to our Fire Company, everybody has pitched in here to try to help the people as best we can.”

The mayor tells us he is proud of his community and he looks forward to a “brighter tomorrow.”
