Tornado damage assessment underway in Sussex County

SUSSEX CO., Del. – An assessment team visited Sussex County on Thursday to conduct Individual Assistance Property Assessments.

We’re told the team included the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the U.S. Small Business Administration, Sussex County Offices of Emergency Management and Code Enforcement, Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD), Delaware Divisions of Social Services and Public Health, and the Delaware Emergency Management Agency (DEMA).

The Property Damage Assessment (PDA) will be used to determine if the damages sustained as a result of Monday morning’s tornado are beyond the state’s capability to handle without federal assistance.

The extent of the tornado, its impact on individuals and public facilities, and the types of federal assistance that may be requested by the state will all be assessed.
