Third measles case confirmed in MD, health officials push for vaccinations
SALISBURY, Md. – A third case of measles has been confirmed in Maryland, and now health officials are getting the word out about how you can keep your family safe from the serious respiratory disease. Officials tell us as of April, the United States has nearly 500 confirmed cases, and the numbers could only go up from here. The potentially deadly disease can cause a cough, high fever, and red spots. Officials say the best way to protect yourself from getting this disease is to get vaccinated.
“These pockets of un-vaccinated people are bringing these epidemics back to us and I tell everybody it’s easier to get a vaccine than it is to get the measles, the mumps, polio and keep you out of the hospital,” said Apple Drug pharmacist Matthew Balish.
The pharmacy says that they will be offering vaccinations for people aged 18 and over without a prescription and immunizations to children aged 9-17 with an order from a doctor.
