Teenager arrested for allegedly assaulting girlfriend in Delaware

Houston, Del. – A Delaware man is behind bars after police say he broke into a home and physically assaulted his 15-year-old girlfriend.

On Thursday, April 18th, shortly before 11:30 P.M., Delaware State Police responded to the 1200 block of Pine Street in Houston for a report of domestic related burglary. The homeowner told police that her two grandchildren were spending the night and that she woke up to her granddaughter screaming and a window shattering.

According to the report, 18-year-old Dontreze McDonald had kicked in the bathroom door and removed it from the hinges. The Houston man then allegedly found his girlfriend, the 15-year-old granddaughter of the homeowner, and physically assaulted her. McDonald fled the residence after the reported assault but was found by troopers at his own home where he was taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop 3 where he was charged with first degree burglary, third degree assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and criminal mischief.

The teenager was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $7,100.00 secured bond.

The victim was injured during the assault, however because the injuries were minor she did not require medical treatment.
