Sussex County: Volunteers create tornado relief cleanup crew
SEAFORD, Del. – And the community support doesn’t stop there residents have also organized a tornado relief cleanup crew to help those affected by the storm. We’re told the group was formed after residents wanted to see if anyone had free time to spare to help clean up some of the fields and properties riddled with debris. Volunteers started the clean up process around 8 o’clock Wednesday morning. They also looked for any personal items families may have lost during the storm. After hearing about the group, local companies also pitched in donating trucks, equipment and services.
“This all started with a Facebook post. And then seagull fence was so kind to jump in right away to offer manpower, equipment, trucks. We decided that we needed to get out here and clean it up. These farmers here are planting corn tomorrow and we’re just trying to get it all out of the way and get people on with their lives,” said volunteer coordinator Joe Garvilla.
Garvilla adds that if all goes well he’s hoping to have a crew go out again this Saturday to continue the clean up process for those who weren’t able to make it today.
