Snow Hill wins on a walk off hit-by-pitch, end two game skid

SNOW HILL, Md.- After going into extras tied at two, the Eagles get the game winning run after Charles Townsend gets hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth to hand Decatur their third loss on the year. The Eagles move to 6-3 on the season with the win.

It started out as a pitchers duel between Hayden Sneslire and Chris Baumann. Both trading strikeout after strike out and only giving up one hit each.

After two scoreless innings, the Eagles got on the board first after Austin Hicks laid down the bunt and the throw to first sailed over the first baseman’s head. The bunt scored Scott Campbell from first in the bottom of the third.

In the fourth the Seahawks would answer. Jack Rosenberg slapped one just out of the reach of the outfielder scoring Brett Berquist from second for the equalizer. In the bottom of the inning, the Eagles would retake the lead off of a dribbler up the first base line by Cole Gursky scoring Charles Townsend from second. Decatur would go blow for blow with Snow Hill in this one and would tie us at two in the fifth. Ashen Snelsire knocked a bouncer of his own into the left outfield bringing Wolf home from third.

The tie would be taken into the bottom of the seventh when Rosenberg on the mound now and he picked off the runner on first for the third out in the seventh forcing extras. The Seahawks would start the eighth hitless and three straight outs handing the ball over to the Eagles.

Baumann would get the Eagles going up to bat first with a base hit down the third base line. Decatur would walk the next two batters loading the bases for the home team. Next batter up, Charles Townsend and after a ball on the first pitch, Townsend would get hit by the pitch sending the game winning run home from third.

The Eagles return to action tomorrow (Friday) when they travel to Salisbury to take on WiHi (2-8) Decatur will look to get back in the win column tomorrow when they welcome the Warriors of Nandua (Virginia).
