SHA: Reduced speed on Mt. Hermon Road
SALISBURY, Md. – A highly traveled road in Wicomico County that has been at the center of several serious accidents is about to become safer for drivers.
MDOT SHA officials just got approval to lower the speed limit on Mount Hermon Road in Salisbury. The speed will now drop from 50 mph to 40 mph.
The goal is to make a major intersection of the road safer, especially after a woman was killed in an accident on the road just a few weeks ago.
“The idea is that you know hopefully the speed reduction will minimize accidents but it will at least minimize the impact of the accidents, you know, if you’re going 50, 55 compared to 35 or 40 so that should greatly help the area,” explains SHA District Engineer Jay Meredith.
SHA is still looking at other improvements to continue making that area safer for drivers, including whether or not a traffic light would be practical in the area.
