Severe weather affecting farmers’ planting

SNOW HILL, Md. – Farmers here on the shore that are trying to get their crops in the ground are having a hard time thanks to the recent severe weather.

Local farmers are no strangers to the unpredictable weather here on Delmarva, it’s just the area we live in but sometimes Mother Nature proves to be too much.

The extreme weather we’ve been getting lately is pushing farmers back on their planting and making it difficult for farmers to gauge how this season is going to be.

“You’re already on bread and water almost out here in the farming areas as far as trying to make ends meet and trying to break even or try to actually make a profit. Breaking even doesn’t get it either not after last year,” explains Virgil Shockley, a local farmer.

Shockley says if they continue to get torrential down pours in the next couple of days it will severely impact their ability to get successful yields.
