Salisbury woman arrested on assault and disorderly conduct charges
SALISBURY, Md. – Deputies from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Salisbury woman Tuesday morning after receiving a report of an altercation inside a retail business.
The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at around 11:45 a.m., at a retail business in the 700 block of Snow Hill Road. On arrival, the responding deputy learned that 40-year-old Jilna Baptiste had just assaulted two patrons inside the business.
Further investigation revealed that Baptiste was shopping at the store when she came upon two people standing in the middle of the aisle. She then became angry and kicked their shopping carts, but things escalated when she reportedly grabbed a picture frame and began repeatedly hitting one of the victims in the head with it, sending shards of glass flying everywhere.
According to witnesses who attempted to intervene, Baptiste continued to hit the subject despite him begging her to stop. Baptiste then grabbed a coffee mug and began hitting another person in the head after they came to help the first victim.
Other store patrons were able to step in and restrain Baptiste until paramedics and law enforcement officials arrived on scene.
Baptiste was arrested and charged with two counts of first degree assault, two counts of second degree assault, and disorderly conduct. She is currently being held without bond.
