Salisbury University’s 15th annual spring neighborhood cleanup
SALISBURY, Md. – The weather turned out to be pretty nice on Saturday for people hoping to get some yard work done, like the almost four hundred Salisbury University students who participated in a community cleanup.
This was the 15th year that S.U. students went out into the community for a little spring cleaning. Some students helped residents in the city with various projects like raking leaves and washing windows. Others helped mulch and garden at a park on New York Avenue.
The young volunteers tell 47 ABC that the event helps them give back and build relationships within the community.
“We just thought we gotta give back because the community gives us opportunities,” says Noah Young, a sophomore at Salisbury University.
“We love supporting the community. We like meeting people, especially the ones that need our help. We also like interacting with all the kids and people in the community. It’s a fun time and we get to do some good while we’re doing it,” says Kennen Harmon, a junior at Salisbury University.
The University’s Student Government Association buys all the materials for the projects.
If you think you’ll need help with maintenance or house work in the fall, you can apply in October on their website for their annual neighborhood cleanup in November, called I Love Salisbury.
