Residents get a break from cleanup to come together for Easter holiday
LAUREL, Del. – Recovery efforts continue in Laurel following Monday morning’s tornado. But Saturday, people in the area got a break from the cleanup to come together and celebrate the Easter holiday.
The event has become a mainstay in the Laurel area, with lots of hard work done by volunteers who spend weeks packing the 30,000 eggs. The hard work of volunteers just goes to show just how strong the Laurel community really is.
“That’s the great thing about small town life, we remember what’s important. Family, faith, it’s not about our stuff or our things. It’s about being together and doing things with each other,” said Laurel resident Mike Brown.
According to the Mayor of Laurel John Shwed, the town potentially lost millions of dollars as a result of Monday’s tornado. The mayor said members of Sussex County Emergency Services are still gathering information for a damage assessment.
