Poplar Hill treatment center proposal on hold until further notice
SALISBURY, Md. – The possibility of a drug treatment center opening up in the area is being placed on hold, at least for now. Wicomico County officials tell say that earlier this week, the service provider they chose to transform the Poplar Hill building into a treatment center withdrew their proposal. And without another provider to take their place officials can’t move forward. Officials say that because of the withdrawal–they can’t accept the nearly one million dollars the state awarded the county in funding to complete the project. But they also say that the fight isn’t over, vowing to use this time to regroup.
“They basically said the enormity of the project and looking at the resources they decided to withdraw their application. We can catch our breath’s regroup and hopefully come at this with an even better strategy going forward,” said assistant director of administration for Wicomico County, Weston Young.
Young adds that the county does have a meeting coming up with another potential service provider that’s interested in the facility. And if all goes well they will re-apply to receive state funding in July.
