OC convention center expansion passes Md. General Assembly

OCEAN CITY, Md. –  Ocean city is one signature away from getting the go ahead to start a multi-million dollar project to expand the convention center.

On Monday, both the House and the Senate passed the legislation that will add about 50,000 sq. ft. to the convention center and now it’s just awaiting governor hogans signature.

It’s a $37.5 million project, money the town believes they will get back from economic impact since this expansion will allow for more opportunities to host bigger conventions and events that helps both the local and state economy.

“People think ‘oh it’s February it’s low in Ocean City.’ Well the truth of the matter is we’re hosting thousands of people every single day at the convention center which means people are staying in the hotels, people are eating at the restaurants and ultimately the city in the state are benefiting from the economic impact,” says Ocean City PIO Jessica Waters.

We’re told this expansion will create 470 to 670 new full time jobs and will allow for more meeting rooms and exhibit halls to be constructed.
