New report suggests we could see more ticks due to wet weather

DOVER, Del. – Even though it didn’t feel like it on Tuesday, spring is here and so are the ticks.

A new report released by the National Pest Management Association suggests that the northeastern United States can expect to see a higher number of ticks this spring and summer. That’s because ticks thrive in humid environments and we’ve experienced a fair amount of wet weather these past few months.

Since it’s the start of the tick season, experts are reminding you to stay extra vigilant because right now, ticks can be tiny and hard to spot.

Paula Eggers an Epidemiologist at the Delaware Department of Health and Human Services said, “In the spring is when we see the little itty-bitty nymphs so they frequently result in infection because they’re so tiny and they can go undetected more easily. They’ll be active from now through the summer and the adults are going to be more active in the fall months.”

If you ever find a tick latched on to you, you’re encouraged to remove it with a pair of tweezers and call your doctor immediately after.
