New life breathed into early 1900’s home in Salisbury

SALISBURY, Md. –  People are breathing new life into an early 1900’s home in Salisbury that had at one point been condemned.

The restored house sits at the corner of East Isabella Street and Poplar Hill Avenue, just about a block away from the historic Poplar Hill Mansion.

For years, the house faced neglect and at one point it had been turned into a multi-unit home.

Roughly six years ago, the home caught fire so the city condemned it but that’s when Wicomico County Historic Properties stepped in.

They restored the exterior of the home with the help of both national and state grants and eventually found someone to buy the home to finish fixing up the inside.

We’re told its crucial to fix up historic homes like this because ultimately, they will attract more people to the area.

King Burnett, the President of Wicomico County Historic Properties said, “Every town I think needs some place to relate to the past and this is our prime neighborhood for that and we hope it will encourage other people to do projects to fix their places up.”

We’re told the house is about 80% done and the owner, William Thompson tells us he is thinking about renting it out or selling it to a family.

If you’re interested in the home, you can email Thompson at wnthompson05@gmail.com
