New addiction treatment center opens in Dover
DOVER, Del. – In Delaware, added resources are now available for those struggling with addiction. SaVida Health, a mutli-state medical practice, has opened two new treatment centers in the First State.
Savida Health just opened their doors in Delaware this week, one in Newark and the other in Dover.
It’s a treatment center that could curb the need for more treatment options in the First State, a place that’s hoping to address the patients addiction, mental health, and journey back into society.
Jim Martin, a local treatment advocate and former addict says, “Every addiction is different and every life is different.”
That’s why treatment isn’t a one size fits all formula for those struggling with addiction.
“I think it depends on the individual and what they’re struggling with because the spectrum of addiction is so wide because are we talking about alcohol, are we talking about opioids,” explains Martin.
Something SaVida Health is trying to address.
Savida Health CEO Howie Lewin says,”Everybody’s recovery path is different and so in our model we are able to customize our care to meet every patient where they’re at and provide them with the maximum chance of a successful recovery.”
SaVida is hoping to bring a different type of treatment and therapy to Delawareans.
Patricia Hutkin, a SaVida nurse practitioner explains, “Once you get them on the medication that they need, you have to go a little further. You need to have therapy, we need to look at what caused them to use the substance and I always say we have to get to the root of the problem.”
They’re taking a holistic approach, one that involves medical care, counseling and case management in hopes of treating the whole person.
Lewin adds, “Case management which is helping people in recovery connect with food banks or legal aide or job training or job placement really is the gold standard for addiction treatment.”
Added resources Martin thinks are desperately needed.
“All of this is important stuff that’s coming. It’s almost like you’re getting reinforcements in from professionals because as peers we can only do so much.”
SaVida says they were able to expand into the First State because of Delaware’s commitment to funding addiction treatment through reasonable reimbursement rates and for expanding Medicaid.
Now SaVida is covered by essentially any type of insurance, including commercial insurance, Medicaid and Medicare. There may be co-payments but we’re told it usually doesn’t cost too much if it comes from out of pocket.
