Lawmakers grapple with storm funding after Tornado hits Laurel

LAUREL, Del. – Local legislators on Friday said the state has not released any funding to help residents in Laurel recover from Monday’s devastation.
Delaware State Representative Tim Dukes said he has reached out to Governor John Carney and state agencies, but for now at least there is no promise of financial assistance.
Dukes added that he has received help from organizations like Good Ole Boy, which recently donated $10,000 dollars. The State Representative said this money will help residents who were affected by the storm.
“Several of the families that homes were hit by the tornadoes has really created a personal financial crisis, and so I went to the governor and several state agencies trying to get some emergency funding to help with some of these deductibles,” said Dukes.
Dukes said following Monday’s devastation he wants to start a state emergency fund if one does not already exist.
