Knight rises in Shorebirds home opener

SALISBURY, Md- The Delmarva Shorebirds improved to 5-1 on the young season, defeating the Lakewood Blue Claws in Thursday night’s home opener at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

Starter Blaine Knight (Orioles 10th ranked prospect) earned the start and earned his first professional win in the process, dazzling the home crowd with 5 innings, giving up just two hits, no earned runs and striking out 6.

Doran Turchin blasted a solo home run onto the new 360-degree deck to begin the fourth inning, allowing Delmarva to jump out to a 3-0 lead and cruise from there.

Delmarva remains one of just two teams in the Sally League with one loss. Northern first-place Hickory also won to improve to 7-1. The Shorebirds go for their fourth win in a row on Friday night against Lakewood.
