Insurance companies offer storm damage tips for residents

SALISBURY, Md. – As families continue to regroup from the storm, insurance companies are offering some tips to help you if your home has suffered any storm damage. Experts tell 47 that before you begin cleaning up or making repairs, make sure you call your insurance company. After you’ve contacted them, make a list of items that were damaged by the tornado by taking videos or photographs of those items. They also say that you should also have your insurance company come out and survey the damage and see what needs to be replaced.

“If you can make temporary repairs to prevent further damage almost any standard homeowner insurance policy will reimburse you for the cost to prevent further damage to your home as long as it’s a covered claim,” said Gary Marshall Insurance owner Dave Galeone.

Officials also add that you should save all receipts, including those from temporary repairs so your insurance company can reimburse you.
