Fees go up in Bethany Beach

BETHANY BEACH, Del. – Bethany Beach just got a little more expensive for both business owners and property owners.

The town just bumped up property taxes by three percent and increased fees for things like business licenses, rental licenses and shuttle buses.

We’re told the town plans to spend the money generated by the increased fees on things like band stand performances and increased lifeguard salaries.

We spoke to the owners at the Bethany Fine Arts Gallery about the increase, and while they say it’s definitely frustrating, they also say that they’re glad the money is going back to the town.

Michael Orheline, the Owner and Operator at Bethany Fine Arts Gallery said, “I don’t think anybody really likes that but I do see the necessity of keeping things you know current and maintained….if that’s what it is going to cost then that is what you’re going to have to pay and that’s it.”

Bethany’s fiscal year 2019 budget just kicked in on Monday.
