Easton woman charged with involuntary manslaughter, child neglect in death of two year old child

EASTON, Md. – Officers with the Easton Police Department served a criminal summons to an Easton woman on Sunday on numerous charges relating to the death of a two-year-old child under her care back in September 2018.

On September 22, 2018, Easton Police were assisted by Talbot County EMS in responding to a reported cardiac arrest of a two-year-old child at a residence in the 29000 block of Pin Oak Way in Easton. The child was found deceased on arrival and showed signs that she had died hours prior.

Further investigation revealed that the child was under the sole care of 29-year-old Samantha Griebel, with whom she shared a bedroom with. Police executed a search warrant at the home and seized suspected controlled dangerous substances (CDS), and numerous drug paraphernalia items including hypodermic syringes from Griebel’s bedroom. The suspected CDS was later identified as Fentanyl, para-Fluoroisobutyrl-Fentanyl, and Tramadol.

An autopsy revealed that the child’s death was a homicide and a result of Fentanyl and 4-Fluoroisobutyrl-Fentanyl intoxication.

Griebel was served a summons on Sunday on charges of involuntary manslaughter, child neglect, reckless endangerment, possession of CDS, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police say Griebel signed for the charges and was released.
