DUI charges for MD motorcyclist who rear-ended SUV
Salisbury, MD. – A Quantico man is facing DUI charges after running his motorcycle into the back of a Ford Escape that was slowing down to avoid hitting wild life.
On Thursday, April 18th at about 9:45 P.M. Maryland State Police from the Salisbury Barrack were called to the area of Nanticoke Road and Catchpenny Road in Wicomico County for a car crash involving a black Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle and a black Ford Escape. When Troopers arrived they spoke with the driver of the Escape, 18-year-old David Romin Waters, who said he had abruptly slowed down to avoid hitting deer that were crossing the roadway, and when he did he was hit from behind by the motorcycle, which was being driven by 26-year-old Miguel Angel Valderas.
As police spoke with Valderas they could smell alcohol on him, saw signs of impairment and asked him to perform standardized field sobriety tests. After performing poorly on those tests Valderas was arrested for driving under the influence and, after being read his rights, refused to consent to a blood kit test to determine how intoxicated he was at the time.
The 26-year-old was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center and released to the care of the hospital staff. He faces the DUI charge and other traffic related offenses.
