DSP investigating fatal crash in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a crash that claimed the life of one Saturday evening.

Officials say the accident happened just before 8 p.m., on US 301 north of Bunker Hill Road. A fire truck was traveling northbound on US 301 on its way to assist a previous collision with injuries with all of its emergency lights activated. The driver of the firetruck had reportedly just applied the air brake and the truck was stopped when it was hit from behind by an Acura TL.

We’re told the driver of the firetruck, a 34-year-old male from Middletown, was properly restrained and declined treatment at the scene.

The driver of the Acura, identified as 57-year-old Alan Edmonds of Wilmington, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say he was properly restrained at the time of the crash.
