Dover Mayor announces retirement of Police Chief

DOVER, Del. – Dover Mayor Robin Christiansen announced during a press conference Tuesday morning that police chief Marvin Mailey is retiring.

Community members expressed their sadness during the conference, saying they would miss their chief.

Deputy Chief Tim Stump will step in as active police chief, effective May 17th. We’re told a permanent chief likely won’t be elected until September of 2020, while the city conducts a nationwide search for a new chief.

Chief Mailey took office back in 2017, and during his two years in the position, he responded to a rise in violent crime such as gang related activity and human trafficking.
