Dover locals plead for an end to violence following deadly shooting
DOVER, Del. – A Dover man who was shot in the early hours of the morning on Saturday has passed away as a result of his injuries.
Police identified 35-year-old Tyrone Sampson as the victim.
Jonathon Taylor, a Dover resident said, “This is something that’s been happening on the regular here lately in the Dover area so I mean it’s a shame, it’s sad.”
At around four in the morning Saturday, police say they responded to reports of a shooting on Weston Drive and found Sampson with a gunshot wound to the upper body.
Andrew Connolly, a Dover resident said, “From what I understand, it was a warehouse party.”
Police say officers performed first aid until medics arrived. Doctors tried to save Sampson’s life but unfortunately, police say he passed away on Monday.
Taylor said, “Nothing should happen that takes it there, so it’s just sad.”
Detectives were on scene Tuesday trying to piece together what happened on Saturday.
Locals tell us there is speculation this might have happened because of some kind of disagreement.
Connolly said, “I truly believe that Tyrone was a victim of somebody who was petty and said ‘I can’t forgive you. Whatever happened I can’t get over it. So I’m going to try to handle it the way I know best.’ Unfortunately, our community cannot survive like that, it’s got to change.”
People who knew Tyrone say he was a friendly guy who was always making everyone laugh.
Taylor said, “He was a nice guy, really respectable guy.”
Connolly said, “He was a funny dude. I’m a jokester myself, he’s a funny dude that’s all I remember from him.”
Moving forward, locals hope something changes so another tragedy like this doesn’t happen again.
Taylor said, “I just think the violence has to stop.”
Police have not yet identified a suspect in this shooting.
A cash reward of up to $1,000 is being offered to anyone who gives information that leads to an arrest.
