Dorchester County residents react to news of tornado

DORCHESTER COUNTY, Md. – People living on Bailey Store Road in Dorchester County on Sunday had their suspicions confirmed after hearing that a tornado did in fact touch down in their neighborhood on Monday.

“I could hear and see that the wind was pretty heavy and the rain was sideways,” said Tracy Wise, a resident.

“So I wasn’t terrified, but I was concerned,” said Wise.

Some people said they woke up to the sound of powerful winds mixed with rain that rocked their trailer homes back and forth.

“We live in a trailer home and they raddle a lot during wind,” said Wise, “That particular night you could really hear it raddle, plus we had thunder and lightning.”

Meanwhile one farmer in the area said loose materials on the roof of his shed shows that the storm may have come close to lifting it into the air. On top of that trees in the surrounding area were snapped in half and fences were knocked down.

Neighbors just a few blocks down said they only saw tree limbs left scattered around by the storm.

“We did wake, we had some branches down, and it wasn’t horrendous,” said Wise, “The skirts of the trailers were not flying off everywhere, which we have had winds here that has done that.”

Tracy Wise said she and her family feel lucky that noting serious happened to their home.

“Just in our backyard, nothing horrible, but of course it always concerns me when we have high winds because those trees would take out my back porch and I would be a very unhappy girl,” said Wise.

Despite the damage people on Bailey Store Road are just thankful the tornado did not stay around long enough to cause any more devastation to the area.

“You’re always concerned that when you’re in a trailer you may end up in Oz, but the next day of course everything was fine,” said Wise, “I went back to sleep because it calmed down.”
